Although this CD has been out since 1999 I felt a need to give it a review. Why? Well how many sound system CDs are of dances held in the UK by a sound of the calibre of Stone Love Movements? The quality of both discs are to a high standard with disc one featuring Daddy Crucial's birthday bash which took place in Birmingham and the second disc featuring the after party in Nottingham.
Track 1 of disc 1 explodes into Bounty Killer on Nas' 'Hate Me Now' rhythm and then by track 2 you are taken down that familiar road 'Memory Lane' with some Stone Love classic dubs including Johnny Osbourne's and Shabba's 'No Ice Cream Sound' and Wayne Wonder and Buju's 'Come Test Me Nuh'.
Rory then goes on to showcase the Bam Bam, Corduroy (one of my favourite rhythms) and Bruk Out rhythms and visions of dances that have taken the Reggae World by storm come to mind namely the Bogle, World dance and the Prang. The pace is then stepped up with the help of the likes of the Scare Dem Crew, Babycham and Spragga Benz.
There is something for all musical tastes from the Bashment, Cultural/Roots fans to the Lovers. If that was not enough disc 1 goes out with a bang with a Dennis Brown tribute.
On disc 2 you get more of the Crown Prince of Reggae and then straight onto Stone Love's own 'Rip Off' rhythm ending on the cultural selection with Sizzla, Jah Mali and Tony Rebel to name a few. If that wasn't enough disc 2 is an enhanced CD so you can watch a little of what took place at these dances with the assistance of a PC.
This is the future of dancehall, soon gone will be the tapes and as time goes on we will be treated not only to the music but visuals with the aid of enhanced CDs. Daddy Crucial has set a high standard that I hope more music producers will follow.
