The Braids were a dance-pop-R&B duo that consisted of singers Zoe Ellis and Caitlin Cornwell.
As a child, Zoe grew up playing instruments such as the piano, trumpet, flute, and cello. She sung in the Interfaith Gospel Choir where she met her friend and singing partner, Caitlin.
Caitlin started singing when she was 4 years old, singing at the high school where her dad was a teacher.
She performed at the Julia Morgan Theater in Berkeley, California, the Oakland Children's Chorus, and the Interfaith Gospel Choir where she sung with musicians such as Tramaine Hawkins, Linda Ronstadt, Bobby McFarrin, MC Hammer, the Neville Brothers and many more. It's also where she met her friend and singing partner, Zoe.

For 3 years, Caitlin and Zoe were members of the Bay Area funk music group called the Mo'Fessionals. The group sold out every club in San Francisco and released two independent albums.
In 1996, the duo teamed up with producer Stephan Jenkins (of Third Eyed Blind fame) to record a cover version of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" which was featured on the "High School High" movie soundtrack.
