This is a study of Kleffel, Kohnholdt and Gundermann, one of Hamburg's foremost architectural practices with an international reputation. Their projects include a large music dome in Tampa, the revitalization of a quarry in Kuala Lumpur, the Blue Nile development in Khartoum and the Sports City in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The practice's many projects in Hamburg (mostly office buildings, but also apartment blocks and Europe's largest musical theatre) are characterized by a careful choice of materials, as well as their clear-cut forms, often working as a landmark for a particular neighbourhood.
