First Fruits is the first solo album from Sice, known as Eggman, a name obviously influenced by The Beatles "I Am the Walrus". Some may know Sice from my favorite band and lead singer of the Boo Radleys. Eggman shows off a wide range of vocal ability, using a very high & sweet voice. The 10 short tracks here are beautifully orchestrated. Like his band, the songs are very poppy and upbeat. They get right to the point. I always knew Sice had a wonderful voice with the Boo Radleys, but First Fruits is even more uplifting, even soulful & angelic at times. This album does include members from Eighteen Wheeler, and Moose as well as Ed Ball on bass. It also came at a time when the Boo Radleys were at their best, when they take their music far beyond the shoegazer scene. If you haven't already you got to hear Eggman's voice. The very first line is, "I feel joyful when I sing", and it shows! I will put it up there with Figure 8 from Elliott Smith,(another favorite of mine)when it comes to solo works, it's that good! This CD is hard to find elsewhere since it is imported from England I believe. I am really surprised no one has reviewed this album yet, it's been out since 1996! The only downside is it's too short and one is left wanting more.
